Baki Hunters

Some local kids I met strolling down the a road earlier were now just outside my house. The subdivision is actually built on a wetland, probably once an area extremely rich in endemic biodiversity, now continually being buried under houses.

But the kids know it still holds some wildlife - baki or frogs. Not the America toad they let me know. With insects stuck on their home made hooks, dangling in between the leaves, it only takes a few minutes to hook one.

With a flick of the wrists the baki is in his hand. He holds it up for me to photograph. Then into his bag as he announced “it tastes like chicken.” The rain came and off they ran with their loot.

Baki in the bag.
